Honeycomb and Hot Honey: Toyota's 2027 TRD Pro Trucks Go Yellow, and What's Actually New Underneath

Published August 2026. Details confirmed as of August 5, 2026, against Toyota's own newsroom release of July 28, 2026.

On July 28, 2026, Toyota announced two new paint colors for the 2027 TRD Pro lineup: Honeycomb, a deep metallic gold, on Tundra, Sequoia and Tacoma, and a similar shade called Hot Honey on the 4Runner. The paint got the headlines. The more useful news for anyone who actually takes a truck off pavement around Tuscaloosa is underneath, where Tundra and Sequoia get newly tuned FOX shocks and Tundra and Tacoma add available ISO-dynamic seats.

The News

What Toyota Announced, and Which Truck Gets Which Color

Pictured: a 2026 Tacoma on our lot. We do not yet have photography of the 2027 Honeycomb or Hot Honey paint, and we are not going to show you a different color and call it new.

The split is simple once you see it laid out. Three vehicles get Honeycomb. The 4Runner gets its own shade.

Sequoia TRD ProHoneycomb
Tacoma TRD ProHoneycomb
4Runner TRD ProHot Honey, a similar but distinct shade

Toyota has run a signature TRD Pro color for years, and it changes annually. What is different this time is that the brand split it into two related shades rather than running one across the board.

The Part That Matters

The Hardware Changes Are the Real Story

A paint announcement is an easy headline. The substantive part of Toyota's release is the suspension and seating.

Confirmed by Toyota

  • Honeycomb exterior color on Tundra, Sequoia and Tacoma TRD Pro; Hot Honey on 4Runner TRD Pro
  • Tundra and Sequoia TRD Pro receive newly designed, vehicle-specific tuned FOX enhanced QS3 shocks, intended to improve feel, stability and adjustability over rough terrain
  • Standard red tow hooks
  • ISO-dynamic seats available on Tundra and Tacoma

The QS3 in the shock name refers to a three-position adjuster. It lets you change the damping without tools, which is the difference between a truck set up for a highway run to Birmingham and one set up for a rutted forest road. Vehicle-specific tuning matters here because a Sequoia and a Tundra carry weight very differently.

ISO-dynamic seats are the more unusual item. They use a mechanism in the seat itself to isolate the occupant's upper body from side-to-side and vertical motion. On washboard surfaces that is the difference between arriving tired and arriving fine.

What Toyota has not said

No 2027 output figures, no tow ratings, no fuel economy and no pricing. We also cannot tell you how many Honeycomb units Tuscaloosa Toyota will receive, or when. TRD Pro allocation is set by Toyota and is typically limited. Anyone quoting you a specific arrival date on a specific color right now is guessing.

Context

Toyota Does Not Build Many Yellow Vehicles

Several outlets covering the announcement, including Jalopnik and Motor1, noted that these will be among the very few yellow Toyotas the brand has ever series-produced, putting them alongside the 2026 GR86 Yuzu Edition and the Nitro Yellow GR Supra. That framing is press characterization rather than something Toyota claimed in its release, but the underlying point holds: gold and yellow are rare in this lineup.

Whether that matters to you is a personal question. What it does mean practically is that a Honeycomb truck will be easy to spot and, if history is any guide, will hold attention on a resale listing. We are not going to make a value claim beyond that.

The Local Angle

Where a TRD Pro Earns Its Keep Around Tuscaloosa

Adjustable shocks are only worth paying for if you have somewhere to use them. West Alabama does. The Sipsey Wilderness and the forest roads through Bankhead National Forest are the obvious ones, close enough for a day trip and rough enough to justify the hardware. The Talladega National Forest gives you the same thing to the east.

Closer to home the case is about towing and load rather than rock crawling. Lake Tuscaloosa and Lake Lurleen ramps get busy from spring through fall, and a truck that can pull a boat there on Saturday and run US-82 to work on Monday is doing the job most people here actually need done.

Then there is the game-day reality, which is not a joke. A TRD Pro in a loud gold parked in a Bryant-Denny tailgate lot is going to get looked at. Some buyers care about that and there is no reason to pretend otherwise.

Our July piece on taking a Tacoma i-FORCE MAX off-road near Tuscaloosa covers the trail hardware in more depth, and the 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter announcement is the other half of Toyota's off-road news this summer.

Timeline

When 2027 TRD Pro Trucks Reach Tuscaloosa

Toyota has not published an on-sale date for the 2027 TRD Pro lineup, and TRD Pro volume is limited every year regardless of color. The realistic expectation is that these arrive over the course of the 2027 model year rollout rather than all at once.

If a Honeycomb Tundra or a Hot Honey 4Runner is specifically what you want, the useful thing to do is tell us now so we know to look for it when allocation opens. That is not a reservation and we cannot promise you a unit. It just means we are not guessing about what our customers want when the sheets come through.

In the meantime, our Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner inventory pages show what is on the ground today.
